When most people think of factory demo vehicles, their thoughts are usually accompanied by visions of elaborate fiberglass, exotic and sometimes impractical speaker placement, and enough amps to fill a retail showroom.

Blaupunkt provided the brains to command the brawn with an Orlando CD72 head unit with XM Satellite Radio Receiver FM built in. The unit was mounted in the factory location and outfitted with a Coustic Yellow trim ring. The Coustic team also mounted a Blaupunkt CDC-A08 10 disc CD Changer, which the team mounted under the passenger seat.

Two Coustic HP65.4, 6 ½" coaxials were mounted in each door. The factory plastic grilles of the door panels were cut out using a dye grinder. The team then cut a piece of ¼" MDF to fit perfectly into the hole. They then placed two baffles on the board angled them for precise imaging. To finish it off, a grille cloth was pulled over the piece, then resined and reinforced with Bondo and fiberglass matting. Lastly, they sanded the enclosure down and painted Coustic yellow.

Two Coustic HP693.4, 6"x 9" coaxials were added for rear fill. The team mounted them at an angle in a custom molded fiberglass rear deck fashioned out of an MDF frame, which was covered with fleece, resined and reinforced with Bondo and fiberglass matting, sanded and painted Coustic yellow.

Subwoofer(s)/Enclosures:

The team then removed the rear seats and replaced them with a custom Coustic yellow half-arch fiberglass subwoofer enclosure made of MDF, fleece, resin, and fiberglass matting. The enclosure is home to four 12" Coustic Bass Pump (BP) series subwoofers, which are split up into pairs separated down the middle by a 6"-wide fiberglass banana capacitor rack.

Amplification:

1 - Coustic 80DB amplifier powering all 4 Coustic BP124 subwoofers 1 - Coustic 241SE amplifier powering the 2 Coustic 6 x 9's (HP693.4) in the rear deck 1 - Coustic 321QE amplifier powering the 4 Coustic 6 ½" coaxials in the doors (2 in each door)

The Coustic yellow theme present in the cabin of the vehicle was mirrored in the trunk as the team cradled three Coustic amplifiers in two custom fiberglass amp racks. The amplifiers are configured in a "T" with a single 800-watt Coustic 801DB monoblock amplifier sitting in the bottom of the trunk and a Coustic 241SE and a Coustic 321QE embedded in a separate custom amp rack, which is cut into the back of the trunk. The 241SE provides the juice for the rear fill 6"x9"s, the 321QE powers the front coaxials, and the 801DB, run through a Coustic XM6 processor, punishes the four subwoofers with each booming bass note.

Connections:

The system is held together with a complete Streetwires connection system including three - Streetwires 1 farad 16 to 20 volt capacitors with digital displays (PSC201D) mounted on a custom fabricated fiberglass and MDF "banana" that attaches to the floor behind the center console and bends over the woofer enclosure until it ties back into the custom fiberglass rear deck. On the underside of the "banana" houses multiple strobes and neon lighting by Streetglow. The install team also used two Streetwires fused distribution blocks (CBR44A), which are mounted on either side of the amplifiers in the trunk, and two Streetwires 1/0 Gauge ANL fuse holders (44160) with Streetwires 80 amp ANL fuses (ANL80).

Processor:

A Coustic XM6 processor keeps the sweet system sounding its best. The unit was mounted in a custom Coustic yellow tray between the Coustic 241SE and Coustic 321QE amplifiers. The Sunfire was transformed into a rolling rave using neon and strobes by Streetglow, which were stealthily installed underneath the crossover.

Performance:

Not only does the Coustic Sunfire hit like a heavyweight, the installation team got a little help from its friends to transform the vehicle into a high-octane, street-legal showstopper.
